Zenzo walks on his 11 month birthday

Posted 2006-10-29 09:56 PM in Zenzo.

Zenzowalks2Big day for us all here at the Hanselman House. My nephew Spox’s 6th birthday was today, so Mo’s sister Nqobile and her husband threw a party.

It's also Zenzo's 11 month birthday if you can believe that, Dear Reader. Here's a video of Zenzo at about one hour old for comparison. ;)

Zenzo has been "cruising" for the last month or so, holding on to the couch and the like. He's taken a few steps here and there, in desperate leaps from parent to parent, but we haven't really felt that was the "official he's walking" event.

This evening I was screwing around with this little cheap Canon Mini DV ZR700 that I won. It's kind of a cheesy camera...I prefer the heft and video quality of my Sony Digital 8mm, but this little Canon has a neat anamorphic 480p-style 16x9 widescreen video that makes family DVDs look more professional and certainly nicer on an HD TV, even though it's not an HD video camera. We'll be taking it to Tanzania where we'll be spending the whole of December.

But, I digress! It was with this little camera that we taped Zenzo walking down our hallway this evening, and with Vista RC2's "Windows Movie Maker" that I squish that video and present it to you here!

So magical - congratulations. Seeing my own son walking for the first time, stands as one of the clearest memories about him so far (he's close to 3) - good you got it on video, I never did.

Congrats, Scott :-)

That's very interesting for me as reader to see your son is growing up. You did a great job for that video after an hour. He'll appreciate you when passes 18-19 for this pretty nice idea.

Soon we'll see Zenzo on cover of Professional ASP.NET 3.5 or maybe Professional Powershell :-P

Great !.
Puts a smile on my face for a morning starter ...

No wonder he's fast. We're talking about the son of a man who have some utilities installed, so he could probably write a working application using Alt+Shift+F12+ double click on spacebar + one line of powershell script, and it's done in 7 seconds. So learning to walk in 11 months is no brainer for a Hanselman.

I agree with Hartvig, it is magical. I've been following your son's development through the blog, and have used some of your tips in the growing of our daughter Mia - she has her own blog :-) and she is only 5 months old. May all your experiences with Zenzo be as good or better!
Enjoy Tanzania!

Congrats Scott!

Treasure these moments as they are some of the greatest of your life.

Awesome. Of course, now you're screwed. :)

Nice one...

I agree with Craig - having your kid walk for the first time is the greatest thing in the world, but now the real fun begins ;-)

Good job Zenzo, welcome in the biped world :-)

OMG! That is so awesome... it totally takes me back to when my daughter(who is now 4) took her first steps.
I too was lucky enough to get it on video. Well done Zenzo!

Although, I did notice how fast he is when it comes to crawling. :)

brilliant.

but do you really expect us to believe that you didn't rig up some kind of lego mindstorm .net coding4fun extension kit that turns zenzo into little more than an animated puppet?

love craig's comment ;-)
