The end of Adobe Acrobat - Thank you Foxit

That's it. I've had it. Acrobat has crashed my (and my family's) computers for the last time. I'm officially over it and I'm using Foxit's Reader exclusively as my default PDF Reader. I'm now living in an Adobe Free Zone.

Other than not crashing, the other fantastic feature is the ability to type on any document. That means I can fill out forms that weren't set up as PDF Forms. That alone is reason to switch.

Here's my math:

Firefox + Foxit Reader > IE + Acrobat

How to Reset your Google Desktop Index Cache

Google Desktop and its Indexer just wouldn't relax today. I suspected index corruption for a while but didn't feel like uninstalling and reinstalling as I didn't want to lose any settings.

To reset your index, shut down GDS and delete everything in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\ <username> \Local Settings\application data\Google\Google Desktop\ <some long number>

...except the files that start with "sidebar_*.*" and you'll be back in business when it restarts.

Productivity Tip: Make Outlook's Priority "Above Normal"

I'm back at work this morning and it's all about email. I like to keep ZERO emails in my Inbox, since it's my "IN-BOX" and not my "Hold a bunch of crap for an indefinite period of time BOX." However, there's like a million background things running since my laptop hasn't been hooked up to the wired corporate network in a few weeks. Outlook just wasn't getting the cycles it needed.

Solution: I set Outlook's priority by right-clicking within Task Manager to "Above Normal." Suddenly I'm back banging through emails faster than ever. I wonder if this is a good idea for everyday work? Wasn't the foreground application supposed to get more respect?

I noticed that Russell Beattie listed his 496 posts of 2005. That's a lot of blogging. As we wind down 2005, here's everything I had to say in 2005 in DasBlog's calendar view.

A few highlights:

Some lowlights:

I'm looking forward to 2006, there's a lot of interesting stuff going on at work, I'll do a few INETA gigs including at a poor man's "Canadian Roadshow," we'll start doing Hanselminutes weekly in January (with thanks to Travis for the title), I'll continue with more Some Assembly Required articles, and maybe I'll get some sleep.
