PAINT.NET Logo My one-hundred-and-thirty-eighth podcast is up.

Well, actually a few weeks ago, but I totally forgot to update my website with the details. You'd think somewhere around 100 shows I'd had automated this somehow. Hm. If I only I know a programmer and the data was available in some kind of universal structure syndication format…;)

Scott talks with Paint.NET author Rick Brewster about some of the internals of his popular freeware application. They focus on deployment and setup, how Rick does it and what we can learn from him.

Do also remember the complete archives are always up and they have PDF Transcripts, a little known feature that show up a few weeks after each show.

As I've said before this show comes to you with the audio expertise and stewardship of Carl Franklin. The name comes from Travis Illig, but the goal of the show is simple. Avoid wasting the listener's time. (and make the commute less boring)

Enjoy. Who knows what'll happen in the next show?

Dunno if it was just me, but the sound quality on Rick's end was awful. It was barely understandable, I ended up skipping this episode.

Nice piece of history with the whole pimp->superpimp->nsis story. I'm impressed. I didn't think anyone cares.

True. Fought with it halfway through and than abandoned it for this very reason.

This interview went astray into too much technical details about Paint.NET's installer than the tool itself. The episode might as well been titled "Paint.NET's Installer". It showed Scott's personal interest on how this particular installer was developed. Plus with the poor sound quality, I just couldn't listen till the end.

How many people in this world fire up Task Manager or Process Explorer during an installation and do some CSI work and notice there were 5 programs running?

I think this was a missed opportunity for a great episode. Too much time was wasted talking about the setup.
