imageThis weekend I stopped by Ward Cunningham's house (you know, the guy who invented the Wiki. Yes, that Ward Cunningham) to hang out, and discovered Ward's treasure trove of electronics, software, soldering guns and web accessible sensor arrays that run 24/7/365.

Ever wish you had a real cool uncle that didn't take you fishing, but instead showed you how to create your own multi-processor computer with $2 chips off the shelf? Let's step into Uncle Ward's basement.

Check Ward at out at Channel 9. You can also download MP3s, iPod, Zune and other formats there.

You might also enjoy the complete "Hanselminutes on 9" Video Series, a completely non-scripted video show that happens spontaneously throughout the year. Here's some of my favorites:

Ward has all sorts of cool stuff going on in his lab. Look for him on an upcoming episode of Rob Conery's and my new podcast, This Developer's Life.

Oh, Scott. Hobnobbing with high society and giving we unwashed mortals a glimpse into your golden life of dreams.

LOL! Not quite that glamorous. It was pretty much a basement. ;)

I watched it up until the point he pulled out a Mac .... Was there supposed to be something about Windows 7 on this video?

Robert - No, why would you think that?

Heh. Bizarrely enough hardly anybody has a basement in the UK! I'll have to watch at work tomorrow as it's pretty late here.
Thanks for This Dev's Life too by the way, I went through them this week and the last one really helped me to think about my situation (vastly underqualified for my job, surrounded by geniuses and feeling like Costanza)!

Well, because it is posted on Channel 9, which I thought was supposed to be about "Windows". Ward's ideas may be cool, but don't interest me unless it involves doing it with Windows in some form or another.

Ah, OK Rob. I take some liberties with Channel 9 and will post interesting ideas from interesting people, as in this case. Sorry if it wasted your time. I enjoyed it, myself.

That was interesting as sensors(analogous to human senses) are what can bring your program(brain) to life. I found Mr.Cunningham's opinions insightful, some of the ideas inspirational, and the passion, contagious. Thanks for sharing.
