Hanselminutes on 9 - What Laptop do Alpha Geeks Use?

image I'm up in Redmond visiting for a few days this week and I'm in a super-secret meeting in an undisclosed location (Well, actually it's Studio C in the 3408 conference room, but still, what can you do with that?) and during a break I noticed how everyone had a different laptop. Here's 6 short minutes on who's running what. You might recognize a few familiar faces. I pulled out my Creative Vado HD and proceeded to be silly.

As with most Hanselminutes on 9 videos, this little diddy is entirely free of content.

Enjoy. Downloads for iPod, Zune, and PSP are also available on the site.

for "entirely free of content" to be true of a Hanselman video it would have to show the test signal in monochorme for 6mins!! Thanks for the video man.

Funny video. Amazing how many people here have different laptops. I personally think the coolest machine I have used yet is my Dell E6400 with dual DVI and HDMI ports on the docking station. In addition it has a ESATA port so my boot to VHD is super fast.

That was great - Strange to see some of the gear some of the Microsoft employees are stuck with (as in not super-top-of-the-line-awesome)

Also, Dell XPS FTW - Haacked clearly has good taste in laptops -- (I've got the M1530 personally)

The guy with the 2 week old HP laptop should change his password now.
I have the same laptop as Shaun that I just got less than three weeks ago (with the 256GB SSD). I agree with @webdev_hb on the Dell XPS FTW!

Another vote for Dell .. I have the Studio XPS 16 @ 1920x1080 w/ 256GB SSD. Fastest dev machine I've owned, and I've owned a lot.

So Scott - with Shaun (DNN), Haack/yourself (MVC), and MojoPortal in a secret meeting is the "secret" a fully built/backed MS CMS solution? That would be sweet...

Thanks!

Re: a fully built/backed MS CMS solution, wow, that sounds like it would be a fun project to work on!

Heh, I never said that!

Scott -

Yep - noticed a lot of the members in that room - been working in web selling customized DotNetNuke solutions for a couple of years now... all that being said - would LOVE TO SEE MS (read: yourself, Haack, Conery) working on a CMS solution backed by MS (or better yet - open sourced) that incorporated mvc features in a portal setting - DNN has been a good base but its full lack of xhtml compliance and clunky Admin interface makes customization of its base a MUST. This is especially true when basing solutions on the framework that is, in turn, used by a company where ADA compliance is required.

Anyway - I could go on about the short comings of various cms solutions out there that dont cost a small fortune - if I wanted that I would just sell my client SharePoint (j/k) In all seriousness, something from MS to quite the call for Drupal/PHP would be sweet.. also any bits you can share PLEASE blog it or feel free to send me some mail - would love to beta anything coming out :)

thanks,

Kevin
