the-golden-child-originalSometimes the most interesting conversations happen before or after the show. Often they happen with Jeff Atwood. I (Scott) called Jeff to get some audio for our other show http://thisdeveloperslife.com and was recording as soon as Jeff and I started chatting. Here's our unedited random personal phone call that I thought might be fun

To be clear: This was a personal conversation before we recorded an episode of This Developer's Life. I thought it'd be interesting to share. I did beep out the swear words. Sorry if that offends.

First Post! ;-)

Do you also have the uncensored director's cut version? We Dutch don't mind the swearing all that much! ;)

Yes I am offended. I am offended that all americans get hysterical over a bit of swearing. I'm not saying that everything needs to sound like a Robin Williams standup routine. But a fuck here and a shit there has never offended anyone, at least not us Europeans.

TIL that Scott Hanselman is one foul mouthed mother fucker.

I think the beeping actually makes it worse....

Loved the show and was disappointed when you hung up to record the other questions. Looking forward to that portion. More conversations like this please.

The bad language was a little one sided!! I don't think I heard Jeff swear once.
Great show though I feel left behind with my WEI of 6.2!!

You can find all those questions in This Developers Life, the "Pressure" episode!

I agree! with schotime.net about the "bleeping" making it worse. I also tend to believe "bleeping" gives an unwanted childish feel... It's marked "Explicit" therefore it should be good to go in all its foulmouthed glory :)

Love the series on the whole, but have to admit to this episode violating one of the prime stated objectives: don't waste your listener's time. I felt a lot of my time was wasted and I received little value from the vast majority of the content.

Yeah, sure bleeping the swearing. whatever. The REAL issue here is this:

Is "The Golden Child" more quotable than "Big Trouble in Little China"?

Ed - True! But I warned you! ;)

Feel kinda dirty like I'm eavesdropping on a private conversation.
Pretty brave release really as it's a big smack in the face to anyone who believed in H-dog's squeaky clean public persona. And some non politically correct statements from Jeff re the sub continent. All up I'd rate it pretty low but I think it's bound to become a collector's edition.

This just goes to show that I'm just as geeky. Everything you guys talked about was stuff I talk to my computer nerd friends about. I have programmers I know who are great programmers, but you talk about some of this geeky stuff and their eyes glaze over. Then I have my friends who have been into computers for as long as they can remember and have gone through all the growing pains that came with it. When you mention the modem, I remember those painful days, I also remember the days of when 3d cards use to be few and there was companies like Hercules and Voodoo and each new card was amazing. Memories..... Thanks for the mp3.
