Congrats! Get some rest, you'll need it.

And prepare to barricade yourself against good advice. Everyone will have some. It will conflict. Make up your own minds.
Monday, June 13, 2005 6:33:07 PM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)
Awesome man! Congrats!
Monday, June 13, 2005 6:36:20 PM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)
Congrats!

I've been reading Freakonomics on the way back from TechEd, and the last chapter is very useful for us young parents. It basically says that once you decide to buy a parenting book, it's already too late. The fate of your children depends much more in who you are than in what you do ;).

Monday, June 13, 2005 6:58:33 PM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)
Congrats Scott. That's awesome. I have two, including one that's 2 months (a hospital visit for her almost kept me from Tech Ed), and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

You'll have fun, but you'll also lose a lot of sleep. I learned very fast how much I could do on 4-5 hours of sleep a night!
Monday, June 13, 2005 7:05:54 PM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)

Congrats Scott, and going by the size of the protrusion on the left, it looks like a BIG boy. :-p

Tuesday, June 14, 2005 2:02:49 AM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)
Congrats! That's great.

So this is some kind of new .NET server control or have you finally ventured into the game world and this is your new PSP offering. I have to tell you I don't quite get the idea behind the game but maybe it's like Katamari Damacy so you just get used to the interface once you get into it.

Still, it looks interesting and look forward to version 1.0!
Tuesday, June 14, 2005 5:17:51 AM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)

Tuesday, June 14, 2005 11:14:13 AM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)
Congratulations!

I concur with Mike Gunderloy's thoughts: Take all advice with a grain of salt, mull it all over, and do what you think is best for your child, who straight from the womb will be an individual in ways you cannot yet imagine.

Oh, and do get some rest!

Congratulations man. That's great news. You must be really excited. You'll have many sleep deprived nights, but it's all worth it and you'll realize how boring life was without a child.

It's pretty scary stuff, IMHO. The idea that I would be put in charge of another human life is humbling. I mean, are licensed to drive. Heck, we even try to pass MCSD tests...

Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

Congratulations to you and your wife (I take you didn't do it all by yourself). Yes, it's very scary stuff to be in charge of another human life (I have a girl and a boy), but I'm sure you'll do fine. Just give him/her lots of love and attention and you'll see.

Wow! Great news. Don't worry about the whole "being in charge" thing, that only lasts about 2 weeks. After that, they are most definitely in charge of you! :-)

Enjoy...

>>It's pretty scary stuff, IMHO.

True story:

When my son was born (my firstborn) I had no idea how I would handle it all. As I carried him from the delivery room to the post-delivery room, he stopped crying, opened his eyes, looked up at me, and that was it. I was a Dad and never even thought about the "how" of it again, and it hardly bothered me how scary it all was...

Congratulations Scott!

Stevenson said it best:

"That man is successful who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much, who has gained the respect of the intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had." --- Robert Louis Stevenson

Enjoy one of the best phases of your life. Fatherhood!
