A friend asked me what they could by their geek for US$50. I emailed them this list, compiled from ThinkGeek.

These are pretty slick: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/avcards/7e3e/

As are http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/warfare/8a0f/

This is fun from Office Space: http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/gear/61b7/

This personal area network fleece is nice, but $60: http://www.thinkgeek.com/apparel/hoodies/7c64/

I’d love to have this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/8928/

If you really liked me you’d get me this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/8193/

These are VERY useful for traveling professionals: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/89d1/

I want two of these http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/6a4b/

This is excellent for the price, and unusual: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/watches/706f/

This is topical, useful and CHEAP: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/avcards/8837/

Hm...my birthday is coming up in 12 days...

The usb rocket launcher is pretty cool. I love it!
But my favorite is still this one

I had this problem for my dad's birthday, and ended up getting him one of these:
Air Hogs Aero Ace
He loved it and is already modding it. I also got one for a kid I mentor that spends too much time playing video games. For both it was a great way to get out from behind the screen and get some fresh air, but with enough geekiness to still be cool. Now I have my fingers crossed for one for my anniversary. There are other models as well.

One other idea in a similar vein: a geocaching.com account...

OK, the keyboard *looks* cool, but there is something wrong with tapping away at a table... I think it's the feedback.

I admit I've never touched one, but I really wonder if these would be any good for, say, a meeting. The springs in the keyboard help push your fingers back up after you press the key. With this thing, you get an audio feedback but you're not just dropping your fingers, you're putting them down and picking them up all of the way. This seems like it would be a problem.

Scott,

If you get the rocket launcher I think you need to attach a web cam and have it be always displayed in the top corner of your screen. That way you can nail people before they know what happened.

The microfleece pullover looks very nice. Think I'll get if for my infrastructure hubby - he's always likes things with lots of pockets to stuff usefull gadgets into.
