Random Giant Robot Picture My two-hundred-and-twenty-second podcast is up. Scott sits down with designer Jin Yang (@jzy) to talk about the fundamental differences between developers and designers. Are we a totally different breed? How should designers and developers work together? Should designers code their own sites?

Hazzah for Hot Dog! I remember that one, but got into Netscape's Visual Editor and Coffee Cup HTML editor since I had a Windows box. My first internship at Tandem (purchased by Compaq, then HP) involved creating an online documentation site, taking a bunch of Word documents and putting them online.

I was never fond of Java, but found a Javascript TreeMenu "control" that I had to tweak and modify to make it work with the content and make it easy to modify. I would have LOVED jQuery or anything like that back then. 8^D

I guess I've always considered myself on the "coder" side of the designer/developer scheme. It was easier early on to do both, since the intensive nature of the graphics was simply impractical for the web. But as bandwidth is faster, and design tools get better, I lot stride with the design aspect of things.

I think your dichotomy Scott is spot on between the "free template hunter vs photoshop" scenario. 8^D

Congrats on the SE job Jin! Great podcast Scott!!!
